The Night Sky
If you’re a fan of stargazing, Huon Bush Retreats is the perfect spot to catch the stunning Milky Way, especially during Tasmania’s winter months when the galactic core is at its most visible. From February to October, the longer nights offer fantastic opportunities to see this incredible sight. Just after sunset, the Milky Way’s core rises in the east, setting the stage for some amazing views and photo ops.
As we move into August and September, the core shifts to the west, creating a beautiful arc across the sky. While the summer months in Tasmania don’t offer views of the core due to the sun's position, winter and spring are ideal for observing the Milky Way.
For the best experience, head out of the city to avoid light pollution. Our dark skies here at Huon Bush Retreats provide an ideal setting for viewing the Milky Way. Apps like Photopills and Night Sky can help you find the perfect spots and times for stargazing.
We take pride in preserving our natural environment, ensuring you get the clearest and most awe-inspiring views of the night sky. Don’t forget to check the moon phases before you head out, the more cresent the moon, the clearer the night sky will be.
Huon Bush Retreats is also within a day trip of some of the world’s most acclaimed stargazing locations. Explore Bruny Island, Cockle Creek, and Mount Wellington, all known for their exceptional night sky views. Whether you stay with us or venture out to these renowned spots, you’re in for a stargazing experience like no other.
